Resizing Digital Photos for Your Wiki

Page history last edited by PBworks 17 years, 2 months ago

If you have taken some digital photos of material you wish to display on your wiki, you will need to resize the image for it to display properly. Smaller images not only display better but take up less space which may be a concern if you are using a Free PBwiki version.

I use the free digital image editor Irfanview to resize the photos. Here are the steps in the process after Irfanview has been installed on your computer.

1. Open Irfanview on your computer.

2. Under the File menu, select Open.

3. Navigate to the location that contains the image to be resized and select it. Click the OPEN button.

4. On the menu bar at the top of the Irfanview screen select Image and drag the cursor down to Resize/Resample.

5. On the left half of the screen enter Width = 360 and Height = 270 pixels in the Set New Height window. This will set the size of the image to be shown correctly on the wiki page for a 15" monitor.

6. Go to the File menu and select Save As and give this version of your picture a name ex. Sample ver.2

7. The next step is to Login to your wiki.

8. Once logged in, the Files menu button appears at the top of your wiki page. Click on it.

9. Click the Browse button to navigate to your resized image file ex. Sample ver.2 and click on Open to select it. If you wish to select multiple files at the same time you can click on the Add more than one file link below the Browse window.

10. Click on the Upload file button.

11. Next you need to click on the Home icon at the top of the wiki screen.

12. Then navigate to the wiki page where you wish to add the file and click on the Edit Page icon at the top of the wiki page.

13. The list of files you have uploaded to your wiki will appear on the right of the screen. By moving your mouse over the images you can see their names.

14. Position the I Bar/Mouse in the location you wish to have the resized image. Once there move your mouse over to your selected image and click on it to insert it on your wiki page.

15. Click Preview to view the page. If you need to move it you can do so by cutting and pasting the link to the new location.

16. Remember to Save the page before exiting.

All of the steps to upload the image can be viewed here as well.
